FOLK MUSIC DISCUSSED BY HASTINGS B.M.S.
On Monday last the singing group oi the British Musi-e Sdciety spent a very interesting evening at the home of Mrs parkinson, Knight street, Hastings. The aubject for the evening was the folk songs of different countriesf and articles on the origin and eollecting oi" folk music were read by'MisS Williams. Later the following members gave examples of folk musie. with brief explanations to assist interpretation. Norwegian. — Miss D. Olseh, (a) (Dance) "Dans ropte felen," (b) (Love) "Astri mi Astri," (v) (Work; -'•Kporre vattenog kjorre ve," (d) (Echo Song; "Norwegian Echo Song" as arranged for Jenny Lind. Scottish. — Miss H. Pope, (a) "Tuni Ye to Me," (b) "Herding Song" (Hebredianj ; Mrs Allan Crawford, 'Bonny Briar Bush. " French. — Mrs Allan Crawford, "The Cuckoo. ' ' Welsh. — 'Miss Hazel Turner, "The Ash Grove"; Miss Delcie Williams, "Hob Y Deri Dando." Danish. — Miss Delcie Williams, "How Slowly Move the Hours." Cossack. — Miss Delcie ' Williams^ "Love Song." Finnish. — Miss Florence Parkinson, Pianoforte Folk Musie arranged by Sibelius.
