Empire Butter-Marketing FEELING IN AUSTRALIA
(By Telegraph
I AUCKLANir, Last Night. , A strong aesire for co-operation be-j tween the Dominions in Empire trade is! ; being shown by dairy farmers in New ;South Wales and most of their fellow ■producers in other States of Australia, •according to Mr. Lyonel G. Ashton,: editor of the "Primary Producer," Syd.--jiey, who arrived at Auckland by the Monterey from Sydney to complete ar-j ' rangements for a goodiwill tour of the INorth Island by 32 members of the I Primary Producers' Union of New jSoutli Wales. The party will xeach 1 Wellington by the Wanganella next jWeek. i "New South Wales dairy farmers," said Mr. Ashton, "believo the time has come for the development ft closer cooperation and as far as possible coordination of method in overseas marketing of New Zealand afad Australian dairy product3. In the past the two countries have been competitors in the British dairy produce market but many producers in Australia now feel that methods of co-operation should be su'bstituted for those of competition. They believe this is now possible * and that such development would result in material benefits for the producers of' each Dominion. ; "Not only are New Zealand and Aus-i tralian butters now practically on a parity of price in the United Kingdom markets," said Mr. Ashton, "but they are also similar grade for grade in type and quality. In these circumstances it! is considered by Australian producers; that a continuance of competitive': methods would be definitely harmful to the intercsts of the dairy farmers of both New Zealand and Australia.". \
