Whole Truth

ARCH. LOWE.

Sir, — During the years that the Labour Party struggled upward from an insignilicaiit minority, membership in that body was only retained by strong ■ conviction- as to the 'rightnoss of its aims, as the cost included all kinds of niean attack against members personaliy and the organisation, and there was no hope for any other kind of reward. With the rise to power and influence great accessions to the numerical strength of branch membership has brought some whose aims and purposes are not in line with equal rights to. evoryone and, in a few instances, even with the exereise of the widest of friendly tolerance, it has been - found necessary to expel from branches an odd member. It is my strong belief that the correspondent to last Friday's Herald-Tri-bune, whose contribution was signed "Toleration," has been the subject of such. an experience. If 1 am wrong and "Toleration" has not been expelled from any Labour Party branch I am willing to make any land of public apology that may be required. Once again, Sir, may I state my constituted opinion that all newspaper corrcspondence that contains attack against persons shouid require tho signature of the writer as I am convinced that faise witness, whether from design or careless statement, flourishes under cover of anonymity. — Yours, etc.,

Hastings, Oct. 17, 1937.
