WELLINGTON, This Day. Conditions could not have heen more ideal for galloping than they were at Trentham this morning, but not a great number of visitors are yet on the scene, and there was not a lot of work for so close to the meeting. The plough and outside the course proper were used, the going being fast on the former and a trifle dead after a frost on the latter. The distances are correctly flagged on the course proper at Trentham, The longer trials were done on the course proper, and. the best of them, from the time point of view, was prob ably that of Boomerang and Cerne Abbas, who ran a mile in 1.40 3-5, the halves in 50 and 50 3-5 respectively, with Boomerang finishing a shade in front. , Cuddle and Small Boy took 1.41 1-5 for a similar trial, Cuddle, without benio1 pushed, being a neck ahead at the post after doin'g the halves in 49 4-5 and 51 2-5. Both these horses look vory well, but Small Boy 5s trainer states that his charge may yet miss the Wellington meeting and be reserved for the New Zealand Cup. * Another trial over a mile saw Arctic King, Might, Shy, Hunting Cat and Southern Blood in association, and after Shy had seen to most of the paco Arctic King came through from the back to beat Might by half a length, with Shy a length farther back and the oi'her pair handy. The distance took thein 1.41 3-5. the halves in 49 3-5 and 52. Pairy Dale finished resolutely to beat Kockingbam by a length and a-half over five furlongs in 1.5, the last half in 50 3-5; but Rockingham was stargazing in the straight. Miriam took 51 2-5 for the last half of seven furlongs. Parry and Hainarui ran half a mile in 52 3-5. Siegmund remained with Mother-in-Law over the closing stage of six furlongs in 1.21; the last half -mile taking 52 2-5 Raroa left half a mile behind in 49 3-5, • The plough track was used for fast tiials only by the early workers, and nothing equalled Sunee's half 'mile in 49 when beating Good Sun by a length and a-half. Good Sun, however, was pleasing in defeat, as Sunee is very well at present. Debham was going a shade ' better than Royal Chief at the end of six furlongs in 1.16 3-5, the last half-mile taking 51. Tidewaiter was half a length in front of Stargono after running the last halfmile of five furlongs in 49 3-5. Several two-year-olds came down the straight, but there were no serious trials. Among the number were Proteetor, Peerlesjs, Rakalianga, Diarens, Twenty Grand, Beauly and War Cloud. Red Sun (E. Burgess) jimped four fences in his nsual faultless style. Polabian . (D. W. Bush) gave his best display yet over four fences. Blue Tiger (C. McGovern), looking well, went twice ovor two fences away from the sun. Other visitors on the traeks included Brunhild, Taro% Geira, Le Toquet, Ohanga, Ngatirahiri, Ben Braggie, Black Thread, Tiger Gain, Journet, Anubis, Surmount and Soho. The lastnamed particularly was looking very fit.
