New Zealand Fund to AicJ Chinese Refugees

WELLINGTON, Last Night. A public meeting of .citizens and interested organisations, called by the Mayor of Wellington, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, to-day discussed ways and means of raising money to assist refugees euffering through the present conflict in China. The meeting decidcd to go ahead witli raising funds and to work in with the Eed Cross Society and the Order of St. Johu, which have already
launched an appeal, and to leave the distribution of the money to the Eed Cross Society. A special Chinese appeal committee nas been set up by the council of the Order of St. John and the Eed Cross Society, with Sir James Elliott as cahirman. The committee aims to raise £10,000 in a month, with the co-opera-tion of other organisations. Mrs. T. H. Lowry has made a donation of a number of special stamps to be /sold to motorists. In order to defray the initial expenses, Mrs. Lowry has given £20 and Sir James Elliott £10 to the fund,
