Padisha's Quality.

Is Padishah an exception to the rule? It is granted that the progeny of Chief Ruler have proved of a very Jidgh class but a glance at their records shows clearly that otily up to their sixth year have they been able to contest successfully in first-class races. Mr. Hennah's gelding may be an exception, but in the n meantirne I am going to pin my faith to the law of averages. Hunting Cat is another doubtful quality. A great deal of notice is not taken in either Hunting Cat's of Padisliah's failure to win on Saturday in their' only start at the Opaki meeting, but as regards Hunting Cat, this writer has, been dubious cf his surviving a soiid preparation on the harder tracks. He no doubt is not the only Trentham or Riccarton prospect that does not like the harder tracks, but preference should be given to those who have not "dicky" legs. Geira is ..the only member of S. J. Reid's stable to accept the first day, but it is not likely that Jacynth or Thala, after their failures at Masterton, will be taken down for the meeting, as Wiapawa next month may be more to their liking and standard. Geira on. Staurday over five furlongs divided the first prize, and although admittedly she has speed, a straight course sUch as Trentham may not suit her. White Gold so far is a 100 per cent. a winner, as in her only start won easily at Wanganui. Since that date Mr. T. H. Lowry 's three-year-old filly has more than pleased her trainer, H. S. Greene. Admittedly, she has galloping ability, but there are some very slick novices engaged on the seqpnd and third days at Wellington. Parry and Mahutai will start in the hack mjle on the opening day, but both will have to run much better than on Saturday to be even given a consideration on the place machine
