H.B. TEAM FOR TRENTHAM

"The Barb.")

30 Representatives Make the Trip F0RM REVIEWED

(By

A very large team of Hastings and Greenmeadows trained horses will ^ be participating at tbe Wellington spring meeting which takes place on the Trentham racecourse on Thursday, Saturday -and Monday next. Some of Hawke's Bay representatives went on from Masterton, while others left either yesterday or this morning. Tlie following will be the Hawke's Bay team participating at this meeting : — Bhie Tiger, Journet, John Charles, Rakahanga, Diana Tetrex, Night Attack, Gay Son, Tiger Gain, Big Hook, Slippery3 Joviality, Geira, Le Toquet, Soho, Padishah, Hunting Cat, Black Thread, Pakanui, Parry, Mahutai and Royal Minstrel, all the first day, while others wbo will be saddled np on the second and third days will be White Gold, II Duce (nct certain), Brunhilde, Joe Louis, Amoroso, Star Lad, Lady Chat, Lindrum, Pukehou (indefinite), Blue Shirt, Ben Braggie and Taro. With over 30 representatives, it is eyident that this district is one of the main training centres in the Dominion, and if our horses, generdily speaking, are below the best standard, it must be admitted that at the present time we do possess some very promising young horses. In a very iew year? Hawke's Bay once again will occupy the high position of years past with so many young well-bred sires in the district to effect the expected improvement. At Trentham Blue Tiger, Journet and John Charles will be the hurdlers from these parts and all three have within the last six months triumphed at the big meetings. Both Blue Tiger and John Charles won pt the last Trentham lixture ; in fact, they were the 'best hack and open hurdlers respectively seen out at that meeting. Both required the going to be soft to produce tbeir best, so the-t rain is needed to see their chances enhanced, and as it so often rains on Labour Day a chance may come their way. Now Journet is just the reverse as far as the going is " concerned, as the hardet it is the better is he suited. , Twelve months ago he was first and second at Trentham', while last national meeting he won well the Sydenham Huxdles over two miles, defeating Clarion Ca}0, Redolent, Blue iTiger, John Charles, Brigadore and High Quality. Then he carried 9.2 to come in at Trentham a stone the worse of the weights in comparison with John Charles, but on a firm track that difference will be more than made up for m the Arausio gelding's ability on a firm track
