Successful Year Recorded EFFECT OF EPIDEMIC * "We wish to congrafculate all concerned on the successful working of a season made difficult by adverse conditions," states tho annual report of the Hawke's Bay Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association presented at the annual meeting of delegates in Napier last night. Keviewing the financial po^ition of the centre, the report says that the credit balance of £116 3/8 must be considered satisfactory as the weather experienced during the season was anything but encouraging, and the infantile paralysis epidemie rogulatioiis restricted activities. Owing .to the epidemie causing a general dislocation, it was decided to cancel affiliation fees due by all clubs in respect of the past season, and the centre has carried forward to the coming season the fees paid by clubs under its control. During the past sCason eight clubs were affiliated to the centre with a total niembership of 1072. Owing to the Health Department's regulations, the national championships and conference were abandoncd. However the provincial championships were held in Napier and, although the weather was uncertain, the results were satisfactory. The educational branch of the centre 's activities was in charge of Mr K. McGartney, to whom the centre is grateful for the conscientious mannor in which he discharged his duties. During the year Mr F. Jarrett 'resigned as the centre 's delegate on the N.Z. Council and Mr J. &. Oonnell was appointed in his stead. A centre carnival was held at the ciose of the season when the Henry Williams Cup was e-ompeted for be"tween the Napier club, winners of the Herald cup, and the Havelock club, winners of the Rainbow shield. The Havelock club are to bC congratulated on their win after an even contest. As was the case last year, the centre arranged a supger at the conclusion of this carnival when the trophics, certiflcates etc, won during the season were presented by the chairman Thanks are due to the officials for their assistance during the season, the club secretanes and officials for their efforts to furtlier the ?port, and to the fress for their assistunco "If the same measure of support is forthcoming in the ensuing yeare a most successful season mav be anticipated," coneludes the report.
