WELLINGTON, Last Night. Pointing out that, unless the propos ed work is carried out, the fruitgrowers in Hawke's Bay would be unable to niaintain the production from thcir orchards, and in consequence there would be a substantial loss to the ua tional incoino, Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., sought to ascertain from the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semplc, the Government 's iutentions regarding au irrigation scheme in Hawke's Bay. In the House recently Mr Cullen asked the Minister if he would consider the adoption of the reconnnendations made by the Soil Survey Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in their report on the diminished moisture content of the orchard lands in Hawke's Bay, regarding the provision of effective irrigation to restore to the lands the necessary moisture which was vital in asslsfc ing growers to maintain an essential level of producton. Mr Cullen added that this lack oi moisture was a direct result of the sub terranean disturbauces caused by th( enrthquake.
