Annual Meeting and Reunion Dinner
INCREASED MEMBERSHIP
A further increase in the memberahip of the Napier High School Old Boys' Association is aimed at by the new exeentive of the association, which was elected at the annual meeting on Saturday evening, held iii conjunctiou with the dinner and re-union of the SChool. A pleasing increase in membership over the past year was reported, and it was stated by the newly-elected presiclent, Mr C. D. ' Edmundson, that the campaign for membership would be Continued enthusiasti.eally this year, More than 50 ex-pupils of the school, together with several representatives from other colleges in tho Dominion attended the annual .dinner iu the Silver Slipper cabaret, where( following the business of the annual meeting, tho, usual toast list was honoured, and a musical programme given. Following the dinner, the company adjourned to tue Oddf ellowS ' Hall, where, in the course of a convivial evening, reminiscences of school life, from pupils who had left the school for vari.ous periods flew bkck and forth. The election of ofiicers resulted: — ~ President, Mr C. D. Edmundson; vicepresident, Mr R. Kennedy; executive, Messrs K. Douglas^ W. Clothier, K. Daniells, and T. P. L. Reaney; honorary aaditor, Mr T. P. L. Beaney; honorary seeretary and treasurer, Mr W. G. Willis. The retiring president, Mr V. J. W. Langley, briefly reviewed the activities of the association during the past year, commenting on the pleasing increase in membership. He stated, however, tha^ there Was still rooin for improvement. Iu reference to the efforts of the assoeiation to provide entrance gates for the school, Mr Langley stated that this had not been lost sight of during the year, and that he intended to make a special elfort to assist the new executive to attain their objeetive. The formation of sub-associations in several parts of New Zealand, .wherever a lkrge number of old boys WBfe located. he added, would be an ideal nlethod oi increasing membership and kfeCping in touch with old friends. In conclusion Mr Langley paid a tribute to the Woik iluring the year of the seeretary, Mr W. G. Willis, whose keenness had been largely responsible for the progress of the association. The following tohst list was honoured: — "The King," proposed by Mr N. J. Langley; "The Sehool and Masters," by Mr C. D. Edmundson and Mr W. T. Foster; "Kindred Associatious and Sports Bodies," Mr W. Mendelssohn and Messrs W. Prentice (Te Aute O.B.), V. Rouse (T»C.O.G.), J. Dill (New Plymouth O.B.), S. Craw-ford-Smith (Football Club)_ T. Reaney (Cl'icket Clhb); "Absent Old Boys," Mr T. Ringland, Mr C. N. Chamberlain; "The Performers," Mr P- Spiller_ Mr H. Etheridge. During the evening items were given hy Messrs W. Clothier, F. T. R. Hunt, and W. Etheridge.
