CROQUET OPENING

Central Club's Season The newly formed Hastings Central Croquet Club was successfufiy openea on Saturday aftetnoon when quite a good number of members were present. Tlus club fnnctioned some years ago for tiro wives of the Bowling Club members, but tbe merabership of the latter cJub mcreased to sucli an extent that all the greens lvere needed for buwls. Sucli a number of new greens have lieun tormed lately that the merubership ; lias decreased again and inembers' wives were invited to return and the club was reformed. The bowliug club president, Mr. Mclntosh, welcomed the Croquet Olub -members, on whose belialf Mrs. W. liridgmau, the president, replied and handed over a substantial cheque for blie tirst year's rental of the greens, this being raised by the united efforts of the members during the winter months. Mr. Mclntosh declared the greens open and Mrs. T. J. Thompson took the first strok®. During the alternoon there were on "display two very fine cups, the McLennan Memorial Cup presented aeveral years ago, nad a newly presented cup given by Mrs. T. J. Thompson for eoinpetition among the members.
