AT HOME HELD AT BISHOPCOURT, NAPIER
Tlie spacious roome at Bishopscourt, Napier, were filled to overflowing on Saturday afternoon when the Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. H, W. Williams and Mrs Williams entertained members of Synod, their hosts and hostesses, and a number of personal friends at the synod party. The original arrangemcnts for a garden party had to be abandoned owing to unfavourable weather conditions, but dunng the afternoon the rnany guests were able to wander round the paths and admire the beautiful gardens. Here were to be seen cineraria beds. making a 1 feast of colour, also two large cenouthus covered with their blooms of lovel'y blue, whilo at the end of one patb bloomed large echium candicans and exquisite green ixias. Two orange trees, Iaden with oranges, and a tree of mock orange covered with blossom made a lovely picture, whije wisteria in bloom was to be aee climbing one side of the house. A musical progranime organised by the Rev. W. T. Drake, of Waipawa, was presented during tbe afternoon and was greatly enjoyed by all present. Yocal solos were given by Mr and Mrs Drake, Archdeacon R. Hodgson} Oanou A. Hall, Rev. Nigel Williams, Mr H. Steele, and Miss Tombs. Pianoforte solos were given by Mr Percy Tombs, who also acted as accompanist. Maori members of Synod delighted their listeners with Maori melodies, choruses and hakas. Afternoon tea was served in the drawing-roym , iibrary, hall and diningroom, during which everyone enjoyed o very pleasant chat. Bishop and Mrs Williams received their guests in the large reception hall. Mrs Williams weanng an English model navy costume of cire embossed cloque with front of cream tinted chantilly lace and small navy hat. Miss Williams' frock was of burgandy silk marocain spotted in white with have recently retmned from Singapore Iine. Migs Tlrsula Williams wore a cinna-mon-browu wool georgette frock effectively relieved with emerald green and haviug large puffed sleeves. The house guests were: — The Rev. Nigel Williams and Mrs Williams, who have recently returned frmo Singapore. Mrs Williams was wearing a lovely frock of blue Eastern 6ilk patterned in white, the corsage of which was sunray faggotted, with a small collar of white georgette finishing the high neokline. The Rev. S. G. Caulton, late of Solomon Isiands, and now vicar of Whakatane, and Mrs Caulton, whose frock was of golden maize crepe de chine, group spotted in titian rust with a deep cowl qollar of maize georgette over which was worn a full length coat oi navy blue. Maori members of Synod, who were also house guests were:— Rev. Canon Pahewa, Rev. T. Puha. Rev .W. Moana.
