Mr Anthony Eden, the Foreign Sec» retary, had an interview at the Foreign Offiee to-day with Count Grandi, the Italian Ambassador, xelative to the situation in Spain. 4 '* Mr Eden advised Count : Grandi of the understanding on 'Which Britain and France had initiated the latesl effort with regaxd to non-intervention, ' and emphasised the need for quick decisions. Count Grandi concui'red, generally, and said that Italy desired nothing be.t- ;
ter than to clear the trouhled atmosphere but the xesponsibility was not hers alone. Aecording to a Paris message, "Pertinax» ', in the Eeho de Paris, says: "The French Note provides for the progressive withdrawal of volunteers within a short period under the control of neutral delegates, after which belligerent rights could be granted to the insurgents aud the loyalists.'' The newspaper Le Matin states: "Italy is willing to withdraw 5000 volunteers, but it appears that they would be mostly ill or disabled. Ofdcial sircles in Rome states that the withdrawal of Italian volunteers would have to be approved by General Franco.
