' > ■■■ '■ Church Work in Waiapu Diocese Miscellaneous Items The first session of the 27th Synod of the Diocese of Waiapu was continued at Napier yesterday afternoon and evening. In confirming the minutes of the previous day, it was decided to delete that. part which made reference to the "teams of lay men and women to bo. established in each parish. " This was done with the approval of the mover of the motion, since it waa agreed that, as at present there wero in most 'parishes-organisations of a similar nature, there was no call to duplicato the machinery for action, but simply to implement its usefulness. Tfie Rev. J. J. Anderson brought to the notice of members of Synod and of the Church the work done by the vicar and staff of Holy Trinity Church, Gisborne in conducting a daily serviee at 9.45 a.m. from. Station 2ZM, Gisborne. The Rev. S. R. Gardiner mentioned that he knew of parishionejs locally who iooked forward with pleasure to this daily serviee. Canon A. F. Hall, vicar of Holy Trinity, stated that as this station was not under State control. much could be done to help. Reeords were needed; He was of the opinion that good work could be done in this way, lt was decided that the! ay members of Sydnod cOnstitute a committee to investigate and report upon the clericaJ stipeuds in the diocese. The select committee appointed to consider the work of the Church Army in the diocese wished to express its deep appreciation of the work done in the railway camps under extreme difiioulties.- It reported also that now the whole financial responsibility of the camp work would fall on the diocese. The car and caravan would again be in use next year with the advent of Captain Pearce. The select committee, which considered the increasiug of the capital of the Bishopric Endowment Trust, reported that it was inexpedient at the present timo to appeal for capital fun'ds. Further,, .it said that subscriptlons might be earmarked by the standing committee to supplement the present mcome. _ At the conclusion nfi the evening session the Bisliop of Aotearoa, the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, stated that Mauri members and Maoro people wished to associate themselves with the ' motion congratulating the Rt. Rev.
