WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr Speaker has some very fine points to determine in debate in the House of Representatives at times, but last night he was presented with the possibility of difficulties which does not frequently arise. The Hon. Sir Apirqna Ngata (Opposition, Eastern Mapri), in the cpurse of his Budget speech, quoted a letter from a fellow-countryman who had applied for a house. Sir Apirana read the letter in Maori, but, pausiag hajf way through, said; "i assure you, Mr Speaker, that it is quite iu order, as you will see when I read tho English translatiou. " (Laughter.) Mr Speaker (The Hon. W, E, Barnard) ; I would have been in a better position to decide if the honourable meraber had given it in English iirst. Later Sir Apirana paused in his English translation after the words "If you had no seat in your own pants would that not be a speeial circumstance?" to ask: "Is that Parliamentary?" ' Mr Speaker 's silence conveyed the fact that it was.
