At yesterday 's session of tbe, Waiapu Diocesan Synod, a motion of congratulation to Archbishop Julius, on attaining his 90th birthday, was carried by acclamation. Mr H Turner, London manager oi the New Zealand Fruit Bo'ard is returning to the Dominion by the Rangitihi, which is due at Auckland on October 20. The Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. H. W. Williams, has completed 50 years of service as n priest in this diocese. At yesterday 's session of Bynod, a motion of congratulation to. the Bishop was carriecL Mr H. E. Minn, assistant lectufer m ciassics in the TJniversity of Otago, has passed the Bachelor of Divinity examination of the University of London, ac ording to advice reqeived in Dunedin. The Marquis of Malacrida and Commander and Mrs A. L. O'Brien, London, are due to arrive in Wellington, from Sydney by the Awatea on Decomber 13. They are to leave Auckland for Honolulu by the Niagara on December 28. Mr J, G. C. Mackenzie, Borough Superintendent of Reserves, was last night granted authority by the Hastings Borough Council to attend the annual conference of Parks Superintendents' Association at Christchurch from January 25 to 29 next. The Rev. Herbert Davies is to be nominated by the Christchurch Pres* bytery as Moderator of the General Assembly for the year 1938 39. This decision was made at a Tecent meeting of the pres bytery. Mr Davies is a missionary at Canton, and he is expected to return to New Zealand on furlough at the end of next year. Mr C. A. Jackson, of the stafl of Lockyer's Ltd., was, on the eve' of his marriage, presented by the management and fellow members of the iirm's Napier and Hastings staffa with. a siivor teapot from tEe staffp, and a cixeque from the management. ' Heartiest good wishes were cxpressed for the future happiness of Mr Jackson and his wii'e.
