Thi» neglect in the "aggregate means a considerahle increase in the cost of production, though perhaps farmer* generally f ail to look at it in that light. An inquiry was recently instituted in the United States with the ohject of ascertaining the difference in the life of farming:'appliances put under cover compared with those left in the open. Th« result is Hluminating, - as the following summary shows: —
Possihly the severe winters iu America would tend to sHorten the life of a, neglected implement at a mere rapid rate than ijuNew Zea> land; hut even aUowing'for that it is evident that apphances treated with care will; last at.least half as' long agaln as those that are left in the open. On thatVbasis housing will keep the cost of \ implements down hy 50 per cent., a.very materifti consideration on presjent charges.
