Mr. E. L.

Cullen

•CULLEN,,

It is a pleasure for me to contribute to the show issue of the Hawke's Bay Herald-Tribune, alid to join with the people of Hawke's Bay in congratulating the A. and P. Society in once again putting forth their energies in connection with our annual 'festival, The improvement of internal trading conditions and the recovery of overseas markets gives a greater significance than usual lo the display of wealth of our a'gricjjltural and pastoral production. Primary production contributes such a large section of our national income, and our national prosperity depends in so great a measure on the quality, and qu'antity of meat, wool and dairy produce fliat it is a vital matter to encourage in^every way possible the use of- scientific methods in our industry. The show is the most effectiyo way in which j such. methods can be fostered, and it, is not only m the interests of us all, but its is Our very dutyto give the show every practical support. y...v It is always a source of pridc to me to see our exhibits and note the wonderful quality of our sheep, our cattle, our horses, and the excellence of all our produce. One would travel far before such animals and such produce .cotild -be seen. It indicates the fertility of our land, its vvOnderful development, our good climate, and the great industry! ofv the people of our province. . , . " The show is a most pleasant social event, when town meets country, when all our people can come together in gala spirit and discuss common problems. It also affords an opportunity for the business section of the •community' to gain . closer contact with their clients, and for breedefs and owners to vie in friendly riyalry in the many events. • • ... ' * It will be a great day out for the children, the greatest wealth that our district can produce,. and I am sure the attractions for our young people will be g"rea.fly ,'appr.eciated apart altogether from the fact that the sKpw' induces a real iriterest in the coming generation of farmers of quality". sto'ck and produce, a very necessary interest if our 'high . standards are to be maintained. 'V.' 1 I wish the show and all connected (with it my very best wishes for a successful day. ' .
