H.B. SPRING SHOW

Many Fine Improvements at Grouads COMFORT OF PATRONS In no way does the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pasforal Society show its progressive spirit more tban in the constant improvemeints which it makes to its beautiful and spacious showgrounds at Tomoana. Each year sees some improvement made either for providing more or greater facilities for exhibitors or for improvements which provide greater comfort and convenience for the public wlio attend the shows*. The improvements which bave been done pince the last Spring Show however, are far and away the most important which have been carried out in any one year since the showgrounds have been established at Tomoana. f|Phe first improvement which coirec Under notice and which will prove a great boon indeed to exhibitors in the horse dlasses or oompetdtors in the jumping events is that horse floats wilJ now enter at the gate in Elwood road, and a ramp has been erected for unioading, also a small bridge which will enable the floats to be parked in the area adjoining the members' parking area. Extensive improvements have been made in the accommodation provided for exhibitors in the horse section, 25 lockers having been constructed for storing gear. Waikoko Reserve. Grc.-.t improvements, too, have been raade since 'last show in connection with the Waikoko Reserve, the island on the lake having been laid out in lawn and fiower beds, and the rustic stone border iu the centre of the little island bears the date -1883, commemorating the year of the establishment of the Tomoana Ereezing Works by Messrs William and George Nelson. The greatest improvement, however, that has been made since the Tomoana sliowground was first used is the construction of a raised bank all round the competitions oval, except where the grandstand is placed. Tliis embankment which is about 33 feet in width at the point where the competitions arena is separated from the trades section area, has a slope on either side, so that a fu.ll view can |>e obtained of botli sides. Fxopi that point the bank extends completely round the oval except where the horse and cattle entrances are placed, and from this bank spectators have a full view of all parts of the competitions spaco and parade ground. Thi§ very important feature will undoubtedly be very much appreciated by patrons wlio, in the pasfc, have to a great extent liad their view of the jumping obscured by people in front oi' them round the oval. Other improvejuents are the extension of telephone communication to various parts for official and executive. purposes. The implements. too. will be grouped in a much more comprehensive manner than previously. An extra electrio pump is being instailed to increase the water pressure. The hot water service is to be taken into the lake paddock. A portion of the lower ground near the entrance to the lake paddock has also been filled in. The showgrounds at the present time are looking a picture with spring verdure sliowing in all directions, while the beautifully-kept fiower beds and borders on the Waikoko Estate present a colourful and picturesque appearance.
