BowJs of beautifully chosen flowers, orange iceland poppies, yellow callendiila and japonica artistically arranged with bronze and pale green foliage decorated the stage and president's table at the Hastings Odd Fellows' Hall yesterday afternoon for the October meeting of, the Hastings Townswomen's Guild. The meeting, which was well attended, opened in the usual way with tho singing of the National Anthem, followdd by the Guild Ode and aspirations. The president, Mrs. A. F. The secretary read the report of the recent first annual council meeting of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds at which she and tho i president were the Hastings delegates. there being twelve guilds represented. It was announced that Mrs. Rood had attended, on behalf of the guild, a recent meeting in Napier which was open to all women who were interested in securing the services bf the Sarah Ann Rhodes Fellowship lecturer for lectures and study classes in dressmaking, home-making and diet, in tho nofthern Hawke's Bay district. Mrs Deans reminded the membera that the two remaining monthly meetings for this year of the guild would be evening meetings, men. friends to be invited to the November gathering, while the December evening would be a fancy dress party. A full discussion followed on ihe proposal. to seeure a room for guild purposes as a suitable room had been offered to the guild. The president described the room and the very great number of advantages that guild meinbers would enjoy if it were possible as it would mean a permanent room , for circle gatherings for musical circle practices, country dancing evenings, committee meetings and social evenings. The secretary then discussed the financial aspects and mentioned that if it was decided to take the room every guild rnember would have to cooperate with the executive committee and give any assistance that was possible. It was proposed that the room be taken and this was seconded and unanimously agreed upon. After the circle reports had been given Miss M. Sowersby delighted everyone with a vocal solo, 4Thanks Be to God," and had to respond to a hearty encore. She was accompanied by Miss B. McHutchon. Afternoon tea was handed round and enjoyed by all. The speaker for the meeting, Mr W. W. Bird, M.A., of Wellington, was then introduced by Mrs Gleuvy and talk was' listened to with mucn interest by all the xnembers.
