U.S. BREEDERS BENEFIT
Embargo on Cattle From Great Britain NEED OF NEW BtOOD "I have received letters from breeders at Home deplorlng the fact that American cattle have free entry to this country, whereas the embargo practically debars theirs," said Mr L. A, P. Sherriff, president of the New ^Zealand Aberdeen Angus Cattle Breeders' Association, at the annual meeting held at Dannevirke last night. ''While sympatliising with them ] must point out that the association has tried its best to have the position put right, but it rests entirely with the Government, " continued Mr Sherriff "I had hoped, after Mr Nash's visil to England and his investigation into the position, that some pronouncement would have been made by now, but such has not been forthcoming." Mr Sherriff at this stage quoted from a statement recently made by Senor de Hoz, a director of the Argentine Corporation of Meat Producers, which showed the great importance th&t that country — supreme in beef production— attacbed to the constant introduction of the best blood and animals obtainable from Great Britain in order to rnaintain their herds. - "The New Zealand Meat Board 's report emphasises the necessity of improving the quality of our chilled cattle," continued Mr Sherriff. "This trade shows a very marked increase in quarters shipped each year. With this in view I would urge members to bring the facts home to farmers of New Zealand and educate them to the vital necessity of a free importation of British stock to New Zealand to speedily improve the quality of our stock.
