Conference Forms Permanent Committee APATHY IN BRITAIN

(Received 14. 12.50 p.m.) • LONDON, Oct. 13. The conference on Empire migration appointed a permanent committee, including Earl Mansfield, Viscount Bledisloe, Brigadier-General Nation, and - two members of the House of Commons.. A plan will be drawn up in collaboration .with migration organisations in Britain and the Dominio;( for submission to tho British Govern ment. The chairman of the conference said that *t was intonded first to attempt to form a federation of I .'itish voluntary migration bodies to avoid overlapping of activities. BrigadiOr Culshaw, of the Salvation Ai'my, said that GeneraL Booth last year authorised an Rmpire-wide 6urvey by experts with a view to a-scer-taining the chances of resuming migration. It wag discovered that withont exception the Dominions were most desirous of resumption. On tho contrary, hesitation aud apathy in Britain had been proved conclusively to exist after visits to 30,000 homes.
