Bowling Season Opens On Saturday

WAIPAWA, Last Night. At a meeting of the committee of the Waipawa Bowling Club held yesterday it-was deeided to open the green for the season on Saturday nest, and invitations are to be extended to the other clubs in the centre to be represented^. With a view to conserving the green for summer play it was deeided that it be closed to all play on each Monday, holidays excepted. It has also been deeided to officially open the whole of the Sports Club's grounds for play on the same day. During the past few weeks much time has been devoted to the preparation of the various ' playing areas and they are now in excellent condition. Plunket "Shop." A most successful "sliop" was field by the Waipawa Plunket Society yesterday, a liberal supply of gifts being received for sale, all articles" being readily disposed of. As a side-line Messrs Eagle and Adeane ran a copper trail which realised' £6 15/1. The shop and pompetition receipts amounted to £17 13/-. Following were the winners of the various competitions : — Turkey, Mr N. J. McK&y ; cushion, Mr J. Wyllie; cake, Mr J. Ashby; sweets, Mr J. Logan. The- committee extend their heartiest thanks to all who assisted by way of gifts or individual help. Business Girls' Club. Following the final session of the Waipawa Business Girls' Club a short business meeting was held when various suggestions for enlarging the scope of activities were brought " forward. These will. be further considered at the annual meeting of the qlub. Minor Accident. An accident without any serious consequences occurred in Kenilworth street, Waipawa, late ' last evening when a motor-car endeavouring to negotiate a corner went into a ekid and crashed into a etationary car outside the Commercial Hotel. The damage to the vehicles was not very great. St. John Ambulance. The annual re-examinations of the Ambulance and Nursing- Divisions of the Waipawa bran,ch of St. John were held last evening, thirfceen members preseliting themselves. Dr. D. Y. Allen conducted the nursing division examination, and Dr. T. Seton Norris the ambulance division men. A strong home nursing class has been running at Otane this winter under the auspices of the Otane Women's Institute. vDr. Allen will conduct an examination of candidates from this class on October 19 at.
