MASSED BANDS DISPLAY
A ' Novelty for Hastings • One of the most popular items that is heard over our radio stations to day, are the massed brass band numbers given by bands in England." Next Sunday afternoon Hastings residents will hear similar items given by th'e bands of Napier and Hastings at Nelson Park, commencing at 2.30 o'clock. This f unction will be staged by the newly-iormed Hawke's Ba.y. Brass Bands Association, and the Napier Citizens, Napier Technical, Hastings Citizens' and Hastings Boys' will combine and play favourite marches and popular nuinbers. Approximately 120 bandsmen will take part in this performance, and tho men in their bright uniforms should make a spectacle worth seeing. "The Musical Switch," played in this fashion should prove most interesting, and a cornet solo, "The Cornet King," by Bandsman McPherson, will be a fine number. Hymns also will prove popular, and the evergreen marches "Invercargill" and "Colonel Boge.v" need no recommendation. Another ltem that should give much pleasure will be that grand old favourite, "The Pirates of Penzance." The item that should please most will be tbe mareh round the park of the bands combined in massed formation, led by the respective drum-maiors. The funcfcion, being the first to be at.tempted in this district, should appeal to most citizens of Hawke's Bay, and it is hoped that it will be afforded the generous support bands so rightly deserve, as similar functions will depend on this initia/ performance. As the silver coin is the only means of admission to this display, patrons are asked to be as generous as possible. and so give this association a good boost in its efforts to better the bands of our district.
