355 Guineas For a Two-Year-old ABERDEEN ANGUS SALE
DANNEVIRKE, This Day. Widespread interest was taken in the annual sale of "Aberdeen Angus .pedigree bulls offered - on 'account of various well-known breeders at Dannevirke to-day. There was an unusually largo attendance of buyers from all parts of the North Island, including several from the South Island. The ofiierine consisted of 125 lots, and included a number of bulls showing exceptional breeding. A good percentage of the bulls were in splendid order, and of good breeding types. The highest price was 355 guineas, for the outstanding 2-year-old Jolly of Kowhiwhi, ofT-ered on account of Mr. L. 'A. P. Sherriff, Taihape. The splendid price of 330 guineas wna received for a yearling bull, Sussex of Gwavas, offered on account of thc e«-' tate of Carlyon, Gwavas. A second yearling bull, on aceonnl. of the same vendors, brought 300 guineas.
Run bulls ranged from 40 to 67 guineas. Considerable ' interest was showii in the judging competition held prior to the opening of the sale, in which many flne bulls competed in the three classes. A high standard of quality was shown in the placed bulls. The awards, which were shared by Mr. L. A. P. SherrilT, Taihape, . and the estate of Carlyon. Gwavas, were as under: — Two-year-old bulls, Mr, L. A. PSherriff, 1st and 2nd. Yearling bulls, Estate of Carlyon, lsi and 2nd. Best group of three bulls, Mr. L. A. P. Sherriff- 1, Estate of Carlyon 2, Mr. J. E. Hewitt, Mangamaire, 3. Mr. L. A. P. Sherriff wou both the Wright Stephenson and Co., Lt.d., and the Southern H.B. Stock Auctioneers' ehallenge cups for best group of tlirefe bulls and best two-year-old bull respectively.
