Invitation to Opposition to "Name the Date" MR. SAVAGE'S C0MMENT
(By

WELLINGTON, Last Night. "The challenge still stands," said the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. «T. Savage, when the comments of the Lauder of the Opposition explaining -his reasons for refusing Mr Savage 's invitation to name the date for an election were referred to him. "When there is any thing which appears like an expression by the people of a desire for an election, it will take place,'/ Mr Savage added. ."The Opposition should be in a posifion to have some knowledge of what the country thinks. We are entitled to believo that Mr Hamilton is expressing the opinion of a large section of the community, and if a large section of the community want an election shall find a way to get it on." He added that they had been told by the Opposition that money was leaving the country. If that were true, the sooner an. election was held the better it would be for everybody. "If we find that the people feel they are being let down or will be let down, we will find an opportunity for them to express their views by the ballot-box; but I see no reason for that at the moment. "I suppose," Mr Savage concluded, "that the Opposition must talk."
