"Conspicuous Bravery" RECOMMENDATION P0R AWARD

AUCKLAND, Last Night. The rescue of the naval boat's crew off Karaka Bay, St. Helier's, in which a City Council- officer, Mr C. E. Tilby, participated, was commended at the City Council's meeting to-night by the Alayor, Sir Ernest Davis. "Before proceeding with the business of the meeting," said the Mayor, "I shpuld like to refer to the conspicuous bravery shown on September 30 last by a xnember of the council's staff, lnspector C. E. Tilby, of the sanitary department and a resident of St. Helier's Bay. Mr H. H. Partridge, in connection with the rescuing of the crew of one of the boats which capsized in the naval race on the Auckland harbour. This is a case of giving credit where credit is due, and 1 feel that the council should this evening pass appropnate resolutions. Captain Glennie, of H.M.S. Achilles, has promised to forward to me a full report which I shall send on to the authorities with a recommendation that Mr Tilby and Mr Partridge should be considered for the award of the Royal Humane Society." The following motions by the Mayor were unanimously carried:— "Ths,t the council records its high appreciation of the rescue wbrk carried out by a member of the. sanitary department's staff, Mr Tilby, on September 30, 1937, after the capsize of one of the boats competing in the naval races on the Auckland harbour and congratulates hiin on the result of his endeavoura, and expresses its pride in the service to others he performed on that occasion. Further, that a, copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr Tilby." "That this meeting of the City Council tenders its congratulations to Mr Partridge on the rescue work carried out by him and records its appreciation of same.'i
