OBITUARY
MRS. ELLEN BEGLEY ;
Following a very brief illness, the death occurred yesterday of Mrs Ellen Begley, wife of Mr Michael Begley, of Heretaunga street, Hastings, and with her passing the town and district loses oue who has played no small part in »ne development and growth of the province. Born in County Tarbert, l'reland, in 1863, the late Mrs Begley was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. Guerin, and came to New Zealand in 1879, arriving at Napier on the May Queen. For a time she lived at Taradale, and late at Okawa, and then at Waimarama, but after her marriage in 1884 she settled with her husband in Mangateretere. Some years later Mr and Mrs Begley took over a property at. Longlands, "at the end of Riverslea road, and remained there until 1916, when they retired from active life. Though the late Mrs Begley did not associate herself prominently with any particular organisation she led a full life in her own particular ephqre of activities and business interests, and enjoyed the high esteem of the community. In addition to the hushand there are left three sons, Messrs J, J. Begley, Putorino, F. J. Begley, Waipukurau, and D. G. Begley, Hastings; and two daughters, Mrs D. Evans, of Hastings, and Miss C. E. Begley, of Wellington; as well as a sister, Mrs R. Hall, of Alf redon. Her only brother predeceased her a month ago. The funeral will take plaee to-morrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.
