(Received 12, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 11. Tlia Daily Telegrapli 's eorrespondent at Shangfcai says that the Japanese are using poibonous, sCaring gases, which ar# causing terrible mutilations. Officerg state that during a barrago carried out to-day by the Japanese in the Lotien sector, where the Japanese were consistently defeatcd, the shells ezploded normally, but after a few saconde greenish-black • smoke clouds TOse from the ground, expanded, and remained in the hollows for severai hours. Officers report that 80 were gassed aad 40 died. Chinese experts declare that the shells onqueationably show traces of poison. Foreign experts have been invited to •xamine fragments of the shells, with a view to obtailiing an impartial opinion. Tha Daily Mail's eorrespondent at Shanghai says that the Chinese troops believe that the rain, which is preventing major attacks by the Japanese, is due to the beneficence of the "Cloud Dragon." The floods are so hampering the Japanese in Shanghai that many are reeeiving provisions by means of parachutes from aeroplanes.
