Variety of Shades of Bright Colours

MANY CUPBOARDS
(From
AUCKLAND, Saturday. Striking contrasts in the general cplour scheme aTe features of the interiors of houses being completed on tlie heights of Orakei under the State housing scheme. A number of houses are almost completed, and with the addition of lighting and cooking apparatus and the installation of various odds and ends, will be ready for occupation. Wallpapers in the houses where interior decoration is nearing completion show a pleasing simplieity. The colours, mostly greys, fawns and quiet pinks and greens, are cleverly blended and subdued in their effect. The designs are small. neat and unobtrusive. The simplieity of wallpaper colour schemes, however, has not been maintained in kitchens and bathTOoms, where the paint is in many cases highly coloured. Several kitchens are enamelled throughout in bright pink, and acrosa the passages are bright green bathrooms and blue lavatories. The modern ideal of making the kitchen a place for enjoyable exeursions into the domestic arts has evidently been kept well to the fore in arranging the colour schemes, for other kitchens are pearl grey and deep blue. All of them have the popular terrazzo benches.
