Ajax Wins the Guineas WOTAN SUFFERS DEFEAT MBLEOTJENE, Oot. 10. f. The weather was fine and warm for the races at Oaulfield and there was an excellent attendancp, including many New Zealanders, Turf Bgy, raced and trained by the former New Zealander, • Maurico MeGrath, had a narrow victory in the hurdle race, He has had four starta for three wins over hurdles. The New Zealaad-bred Normal, raced and trained by J- T. Jamieson, narrowly beat the fast finishing Beau Frere in the Debutant Stakes. It was tha winner 's first start. Beau Frere has been narrowly beaten in each of his two start3. Loveable led always to score an easjj win the Debutante Stakes. Brazen Duchess finished brilliantly in third place. The Flemington winner, Jewel, was a disappointment. The Trump, wiuner of the Toorak Handicap, was third last at tho home turn but finished briiliantljr, It was a
great Oaulfield' Cup trial. Dark Sky ran a good Tace and Balkan Princo pleased his cup admirers with a strong iinish, Only One was never prominent.J Spinifex also ran a good race. j Charles Fox beat his fast finishing; stable mate, John Wilkes, narrowly in the Caulfield Stakes. Prinee Quex showed his best form this seaspn and was a goi'd third, Ajax led always in the Guineas and beld off tha fast finishing Avenger, )vho was second last early in the tace. Hua had every show. Bellevue made jup grounfl and finished fifth. Lyneh (Law tircd and Elanage. was never dahgerous. Ajax has been unbeaten in four starts at Caulfield. There was a thrilling finish in the Power Stakes, seven horses being flmost in line. International beat lYotan in the last stride. Beau Roi puished fast. Floodtide, the pace makpr, tired but may benefit from the race, Desert Chief fan a poor race. The stevrards inquired into Turf Boy's apparent veversal of form as compared with his rmwing at Flemington last week but deeided to take no actian, Results
