NAPIER CLUB'S OPENING
No Play on Account of Wet Weather The Napier Bowling Club's green was opened for the season' s play on Saturday afternoon by the president, Mr G. Cooke. In welcoming the large number of bowlers he expressed his pleasure in seeing such a large gathering, which augured well for a successful season, but regretted that owing to the wet weather there would be no play that day. He made feeling references tQ the losses sustained by.the various clubs in ,the passing of several of their members. He also thanked various members for valued voluntary labour and donations to the funds of the club, and to the ladies for organising card tournaments. Mr Cooke stated that the club was celebrating its jubilee this season, and to mark the occasion the executive had conferred- the honour of life membership on its oldest surviving member, Mr J. P. Williamson. and at some future date proposed to hold a social to commemorate the event. ' In reply Mr Williamson thanked the president for the honour conferred upon him, and intimated that he proposed, at the social to give 'some of his recolJections of his 37 years' association with the club. A sumptuous afternoon tea was presided over by Mrs Cooke and provided for the visitors, the tables being prettily decorated in flowers of the club's colours, blue and gold, by Mesdames Corner and Kilpatrick. *
