Breezy and exhilarating, "Three Smart Girls" opened a welcomc return season to Hastings at the Cos> Theatre on Saturday. The plot concorns three sisters, who, living on the lieviera wHh their mothor, hear that their wealthy father, divorced for 10 yeara. ia paying ardent attentions to a renowned lady of diverting chafm Knowing that their mother still loves him, they rush to New York to save daddy from entangling himself. They use strenuoas methods, employing a Count to draw the beaiity into an aliiance which will prevent their father trom marrying her. The situations run the scale from the ridiculously funny co the uproariously laughable. Deanna. Durbin, who has been singing on Eddie Cantor's broadcasts for many montha, malies her screen debut in '"Three Smart Girls." She has the role of the youngest sister. The other two girls are i portrayed by Nan Grey and Barbara j Ttead. Binnie Barnee is seen as the ; fortune-seekhig temptress, and her mother is played by AJice Brady. Charles Winninger, as the millionaire, Ray Milland and Mischa Aner are prominently cast. Von will he enehanted by the music. Hiiilli'd'by the romance and convulsed lU Innmiur of "Three Smart Girls.''
