OLIVE OIL HAS NUMEROUS USES
Among the most useful friends in the kitchen cupboard is the olive oil bottle. There are many uses for it, both domestic andf medicinal, yet it is very. much nfeglected. In'Italy and Spain it is one of the biggest items in tbe hbusekeeping. . • Here are some every-day uses for olive oil. All salads, especially green ones, such as freshj lettuce, watercress, and cucumber, should be sefved with olive oil and vinegar, or- lemon juice, if preferred. For frying fish or as batter, olive oil is most satisfactory and digestible. When making jam or preserves, pour a few drops of oil into the pan, and it will not hura: If a few drops of olive oil are sprinkled on to a^beef steak and left to standi for-". a short time, the meat will absorb the oil and it will be tender and juicy wlien cooked. . Olive oil is an excellent laxative and. an eflBcient lubricant. Earache, one of. the most painful complaints to which children are subject, cau be eased by putting cottonwool soaked in . warm olive oil into the ear.
