Hastings CIuVs Activities Reviewed MORE MEMBERS WANTED " The incoming ' season should be a good one in view of the British Empire Games tp be held in Aus'tralia iu February next, and it is hoped that club members will make a big} effiort to enrol new members and take an interest in the club by making the membership a record one," .states the annual report pf the Hastings Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club to be presented at the annual meeting on Tuesday night. . The report adds that the active mem--bership was not up to the previous seatjon. This was accounted for by the bad weather that was experianced during the season. During the past season seven sports meetings were conducted, Of these, four were for trophies and poihts for the cup and three were training nights— no trophies, biit points to count for the cups. The competitors again turned out in large humbers for all meetings, and the friendly spirit Which existedi between the, officials and the competitors enabled the ;©vents ' to be run off punctually -and witbout friction. During the latter part of tbe season the committee' s'aw 'fit to cancel. trophy evening meetings in view of the meeting being run at a loss; and the ttctive members coinpeted for points for the cups. The number of lady members registered was not up tp last seasoh's registration. The members "are very keen and many show promise of developing into good athletes. _ . The club sincerely offers its thanks to the firms. who so* generously let their employees ©nter ' for- the inter-house Sports meeting, sincerely offer heartfelt thanks to the members of the teaxns who so generously gave up their time to train and make the sports th'e success that they were,- and the display that was put on was appreciated. by, all those . who were present. Thanks^ are due , to the members- of the Hastings Regimental ;Club who ;trained the -various. teams. Tho committee cohgratulates Itunt's teain in yrinning the championship shield presented by. Mr. Arthur Alexander/ un5 also the runners-, up, Westerman and Co. -Thanks^ are due also to the Hastings Oitizens' Band, Who so generously helped in the success of the sports.' > On the year 's working the club showed a decisive loss on its evening club sports, meetings, although the bank balance shows a v;;ry i editable position. This ppsition is due to the efforts of the executive and members by staging the Second inter-house- sports, and by combining with the Heretaunga and Mahora swimming clubs in entering a .sports queen in the bathing beauty contest. The club again found many supporters willing to render assistance, and to those who helped with donations or any other way, they tender thanks. The thanks of the club are also due to the following:— Hastings Borough Council, for the use of Nelson Park, and to the caretaker for keeping the track in good order; to competitors from other clubs w"ho tpok part iu the meetings, and to the general public, who gave their support to further the interests of amateur sport in this district; to Mr. R, M. Egan, for his services as honorary auditor; and to Messrs. Tong and Mclvor, for the use of their rooms for the committee meetings.
