Lord Essendon, the well-knowa shipcwnev, in a speech he delivered to-day, oatlihed the influence, beginning with fhe subsidy to British tramp tonnage, which had contributed to the improved conditions prevailing in th.e shipping industry, Lord Essenden added that he thought it probable that the volume of world trade as a whole was now within about 10 por cent. of the 1929 level. Lord Essenden expressed the view that shipping should be able to look. forward to a fairly long period of trading in conditions which would enable it to make good some part of the arrears of depreciation.
