HABITS v. CONVICTION.
" Good haFits are excellent things, but habits are apt to break down under new ideas and a new environment," saidxViscount Sankey, speaking at Christ College, Brecon. "Nowadays the face of 'the country is cbanging. The spirit of'criticism is abroad, and more than ever people are asking for the reason for old institutions and old ideas. There is general uncertainty expressed about the wisdom of many things in the past or what onght to be done in the future. In these circumstances we want something more than habifc — we want conviction. Not habit, but belief. It is, therefore, more important than 6Ver that those principles of faith and religion should be definitely taught and practised in our schools. It is not wiif toi hftbstitute an ethical ideal for a religious belief."
