SHIRLEY TEMPLE IS GROWING UP
Can Shirley Temple bridge the 8angerous gap between baby and adolescent " roles and develop nltimately into an adult artistf At eighb it seemai fearly for thef Temple parents and .Mr Darryl Zanuck to be troubling about this,- but film stardom involves complex studies in mass psychology. Clearly, even now, Shirley is not a baby any longer; she has to show she is an actress. In "Wee Willie Winkie,** just completed, she is given more emotional scope. "Isn't she changing?" one could hear on all sides after the Hollywood preview. Just now she has finished "Heidi" and has gone on a short holiday before beginning "Rebecca" of Sunnybrook Farm" played originally by Mary Pickford, and later, when Janet Gaynor refused the part, by Marion Nixon. You may ask how Shirley can be expected to face the romantic experiences which overtook Rebecca in the original story. She won't have to, because the story will be changed to give adult ao* tors the love scenes.
