General Satisfaction Expressed TROPHIES PRESENTED JSxpressions of goodwill and fellow-shi-p were voiced at the conclusion t>f the New Zealand ladies1 amateur golf championship tournament at TVaiohikr yesterday afternoon when the presentation of trophies won during the tournament took place. Mrs. H. J. Smith, president of the Napier Club, in expressing her pleasure at the presence of Miss Wray, the Australian visitors and other competitors from all parts of the Dominion, said that the Napier Club had felt it a great' privilege to control the tournament, especially as it meant inciuding the Tasman Cup contest, • which had been inaugurated by Miss Wray iour years ago. New Zealand's win this week, she pointed out, mad© the. honours everi, Australia and New Zealand noiv having won the trophy twice. One outstand-' ing feature of the contest this year was the sporting manher in which the Australians took their defeat^ She was pteased to note that competitors all seemed delighted with the course. "After the completion of tlio semilbjals of the championship we were delighted to see an Australian and a New Zcalander left to fight out the' final" said Mrs. 3mith. "Needless to say we are very proud of Mrs. Hollis, and riearty congratulato her uppn her win, but had the championship gone to Australia we would have felt that it was deserved. We wish the Australians every success at the Heretaunga tournament and a safe return home." Mrs. Smith proceeded to ' express thanbs to the club captain, Mrs. Fussell, who for months had been1 arranging the details of control of the tournament; to Mr. Lan'g and his staff, for the excellent condition of the course; to Mrs. Kelly, to Mrs. Norton . and those who assisted: in the dinirig-room and cafeteria ; to Miss McCormack, dominion secretary, and Miss Halgleish, the club secretary, for their indefatigable serviee and t;o all others who m any way assisted at the tournament. Miss L. Wray, manageress of the Australian Tasman Cup team, and herself a tripie winner of the Australian ladies' national title, said that they came to New Zealand hoping again to win the Tasman Cup and de-v cermined to pluy hard for it. but if they lost it, to do so as good losers. The New Zealand team played well, and won, and she congratulated them on the standard of the golf that had done it. She. thanked Mrs. H. J. S mith, the president of the Napier Club, Mrs. Fussell, the captain, Miss Dalgleish, the Secretary, and all those ladies who had received and entertained them for the marvellous good times they had hiad. . The improvement in the course during the past few days had been wonderful. At first it was dull and lifeless, but the improved weather and warm • summer conditions lrad ko brought it on that it was a ehanged course. The soil, grasses and climate were so different between Australia and Nevy Zealand that it was a matter of wonder to her how the New Zealanders xnabaged to ge.t such'good courses The lack of bunkering led them • to think tho Waiohiki course was easy, but after playing on it and experiencing fche effect of the natural features and hazards they were inclined to cnange bheir views, Miss Wray congratulated Mrs. G. Hollis on her win in the championship. Though of -course, as an Australian, she would have liked one of her team to hav© captured the title, she recognised the high standard of golf played by Mrs. H»Uis..
