Association To Continue. To Help Juniors RANKING MATCHES With. tho - prospect that Napier cnaybe the Bite of the North, Island tennis championships this year, the Hawke '&• Bay Lawn Tennis Association is to. spare no efEort this season to ensure that tennis in the province continues to thrive as it did last season. An indication that this woul'd be so was given at the anuual meeting, when 2G.delegates attended, the: largest number to attend an annual -meeting of .the association for several years past. The president, Mr. R. D. Brown, in speaking to the annual report, drew the attention of members to the healthy financial position of the • associatidn, and stressed what~ had been 'done for junior tennis during the past season. Ho also pointed ,out the gratifying fact that members of the smallet affiliatcd clubs has gained places in representative teams during the . seaSon, and had performed yery well. In continuanee of the efforts of .the association to ensuro. that by tho care-! fnl ceachiag of the juniors, the standard of .provincial tennis 'for coming years will be maintained,- it was decided to ask all affiliated clubs to' retain the junior- events. in all. Open tournaments- arranged, and. to. ernphasise the necessity of , careful' coaching of the younger , players. ■ In, this ' connection, clubs, afe ' to be asked; to furnish the association with the names of promising juniors, for whom .ranking matches will be arranged.
