CROQUET SEASON
Tiio official opening of tlao Hastings (Jroquet Club was lield on tlie club's lawns, Oinaliu road, on Wednesday in brilliunt weather. Mr H. P. Stratton, president, in a short speech declared the aeason opon and ashed the patroness, Mrg Garnett, sen., to put the first ball through the hoop, after which she was presented with a beautiful bouquet. The following Hastings 'and Nspler clubs were represented: Port Ahuriri, United, Omarunui, Havoloch, Kia Toa, Heretaunga, and Hastings Central. The eompetitions were in the capablo hands of Jlesdames Bennett and Esson, captain and vice-captain respectively. The winners were: — Putting: Mrs W. AlcLennan, of Timaru. Trail: Mrs Q, Hopkins, of Hastings. Angles: Mrs W Lange, of Hastings. Skittles: Mrs F. Tonkin, of Hastings. Golf eroqueti Mrs Ashworth, of Hastings. Two-baU brcak: Mis Sxnith, of Hastings. The afternoon tea was supplied by Ihe mernbers, and tho beautiful birthday '•aho with its ten candles was made by Mrs J. iisson, vico-jprosident*
