British Labour Conference Approyes FASCIST INTENTIONS

(Eeceived 8, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 7. The Labour Conference defeated a motion to instruct Labour Parliamentarians to vote againSt the Government arms estimates. Yoting on the motion was 2,167,000 to 22,800. The conference overwhelmingly approved a • policy of adequate defence. The executive undertook fo prepare a scheme for democratisation of the armed forces. The conference diseussed the rearmament recommendations adopted by the Trades Union Congress. Mr J. E» Clynes declared that it was impossible to ignore facts and to be-
have as though the Fascist States were accumulating arms with ^0 intention of using them. If Labour failed to play a part in defence, the consequences would
be appalling. Pacifis-m might be glorious, but it would be dpadly to the political future. Labour would not win a single seat if it were'thought that it intended to leave Britain defenceless. Mr George Lansbury declared that if British Labour did not take a stand against armaments the future of the world* would be hopeless.
