PEACE CONFERENCE Efforts to Settle Far East Conflict EXCHANGES PROCEEDING
(Eeceived 8, 12.30 p.m. EUGBY, Oct. 7. The machinery proposed at "Geneva •for seeking a method of ending the Sino-Japanese conflict was set in motion when the League 's President, the Aga Khan, dispatched letters to the 12 signatories of the Nine-Power Treaty and to five other League States which, having treaty relations with China, subsequently adhered to the treaty. The Assembly's resolution requested the League and signatories of the treaty to begin consultations as provided for in the treaty at the earliest possible moment, and the 17 States -are now asked to meet forthwith and associate with their work other States having special interests in the Far East. The States invited are: Britain, Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, India, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Portugal and China, signatories of the treaty, who are members of the League, and Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Mexico and Bolivia, who subsequently adhered to the treaty. The date and place of the proposed meeting have not been fixed, and exchanges on the subject are understood to be proceeding between London, Washington and Paris. Close attention meanwhile is being given to Mr. Cordell Hull's statement.
