Mr D. Watters, Hastings, was a passenger by the express train this morning on a visit to Dunedin. Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., will be returning from Wellington late to-morrow night. Mr R. F. Baird, District Land Registrar and Assistant-Commissioner of Stamp Duties at Napier, has received notice of his transfer to Auckland, where he is to take over the duties of District Land Registrar and Registrar of Decds on November 1. Mr Baird, who has been in the Napier office for the past 11 years, commeneed duties xn the Lands and Deeds Office at Christchurch in 1905, since when he has been posted at many North Island and South Island offices. Mr A. M. Cross, who has been trausferred on promotion to the position of shunter at Huntly, left Hastings this morning. On the eve of his departure he was met by members of the staff of the Hastings Railway Station and presented with a clock and a salad bowl.' In making the presentation on behalf of the staff, the stationmaster, Mr J. P. Cassidy, made ref erenee to the excellent service that Mr Cross had given during the 12 years he had been stationed at Hastings, and also expressed the high esteem in which he was held.
