Preparations ior Auckland Meeting

INTEREST1NG TRIALS (By Telegraph— Press Aasociation.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The final gallops in conneetion witb the Auckland Raeing Club'3 spring meeting took place at Ellerslie this ' morning 'in ideal conditiqns. The course proper, 45 feet out from. the raile, was used for fast work, and the going was in first-rate order. There were a lot of interesting trials, the best efforts of Mitchelson Oup candidates. being those of Kiltowyn, Fersen, Entail and Knight of Australia. Over shorteif dift* v tances Smoke Screen, Stretto, Wildliower, & Jonathan and Marie's Acre pleased most, while among the juveniles Protector and Minga did best. Knight of Australia, after running his first half-mile in 51 3-5secs., got to the end of a mile in. 1.46. It was a good effort, and he was going nicely at the end. Kilonsoa came home from the eix-furlong post in 1.25 1-5, the" first three being covered in 40secs., The \Velcome Stakes candidates/ Minga and Protector were associated over a half-mile, which oecupied 60 l-5secs. It was the best of the morning over the distance, and Minga wa© a shade in front at the end. but Protector was doing it well. Kelly finished clear of Royal Chief over six furlongs which he ran in 1.19 3-5, Royal Chief taking 1.20. They occupied 28secs for the first two furlongs and were travelling wgR over the last half-milp. / bersen and Entail finished on terms clear of Lord Val after covering a ttu'Iq and a quarter. in 2.19 4-5, the last rouud beiqg traversed in 2.9 1-5.' Fersen and Entail did their work in good style, and the former is an improved horse, Royal Appellant was holding My Money safely at the end of six furlongs in 1.22 3-5, the first three taking 41 4-5 secs. Cerne Abbis and Tybalt, after taking 26 secs. for the first' two furlongs; traversed a mile in 1,47. 'fhere was' littlo between them at tbe finish. Brouze Wing completed five furlongs in 1.6 4-5, the first two taking 26 3-5 secs. This novice is making geod progress; The two-year-old Fabrie imp(ressod more thi^n Gay fHussar in a half-mile sprint in 52 3-5 secs. Best Six of the Morning The best six furlongs of the morning was that of Smoke Screen, who was nearly a length in front of Stretto in 1.17 2-5. They ran the first three in '38 1-5 secs., and although SmOke Sereen was going easier they were both being keptup to their work, Cardsharper had the measuro of Wyi nardo and Namara at the end of m hnlf-mile in 41/3*5 secs. Namara was not unduly "bustled.' Boomerange completed his work by running the la.-|} half-mile in 53 4-5 eecs. She was going comfortably, ; "L ; Kiltowyn worked alone over a mile and a quarter, which occupied 2.16 3-5. He covered the last round in 2.6 1-5,1 and the final mile in 1.47 3-5, It was a really good trial, and he was doing it well at the fiiiish. Jonathan, after taking 25 1-5 secs for the first two furlongs, was in front of Marie's Acre and Ohmaha at the conclusion of five furlong^ in 1.4, 2-5. "Wildflower came nome from the three-furlongs post in 37 secs. She had a fair arnount 'of pace on when she jumped oif, but it was a smart effort. Small Boy and King Rey were allotted useful work on the No. 3 grass track, and lmpasto was exercised on the tan. Taitoru and Rereatu, who arrived this morning, were also»gxven easy tasks. The former looks in solid racing condition, but Rereatu is a bit burly. All Irish, English'man and Rozel , jumped the steeplechase fence on the flat, giving a satis'factory showing. Rozel was then pulled on to grass, and the other two jumped the same fence again without mistake. Thespis was accompanied by Red Fox over the big fences on the fiat, and was then cased up, Red Fox continuing on over the hill. He got round sal'ely, giving a *f air display. The latest arrivals inelude Student Prince, Debham, Marie's Acre, Jonathan and Bass. Miss Lu was scratched for the Flyng Handicap at 9.55 a.m. to-day.
