DISTRESSED AFTER RACE

Gold Rod's Condition YETERINARIAN MYSTIFIED (Beceived 7, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 7. No positive explanation of the eause of Gold Rod's condition after finishing in the Craven Plate at Bandwick yesterday could be advanced by the veterinary surgeon, Mr Davis. For nearly an hour after the race, the horse was in distress. His loins were swollen, he had a rapid pulse, his eyes were bloodshot, and his nostrils were ihe wrong coionr. It is thought that during the race Gold Rod got down on his off hind f etlock, which caused Mr Price concern during his training, and pulled the scab off, eausing tho horse to become upsecj The sultry conditiohs also probably afCected him adversely. Mr Davis stated late last night that the horse 's unhappy condition was only temporary and that there was nothing to prevent the horse from going to Melbourne. [Earlier report on Turf page.)
