TALKING WINS Was Gold Rod Doped at Randwick? THE CRAVEN PLATE (By Telegraph— PrSss Assn.—Copy right.) SYDNEY, Oct. 6. .The third day of the spring meeting was held at Randwick in dull but flno weather. The attendance was 27,000 and Lthe traek Was in good order, Hands Up followed siaturday 's victory wifh a sterling effort in to-day ;s race, being the first to show out and was not atterwards headed. Despite a determined challenge by Tredonner and Asalando, he ran home with a two lengths' advantage. Talking proved his Epsom form wrong by a brilliant victory in smart time m .the Craveh Plate. DaShing tothe i'ront at barrier-rise he bowled along in effortless style from God liod, Allunga and Lough Neagh. In the run to .the post Allunga made a desperate effort, closely pressed by Lough Neagh, to overhaui the leader, bul Talking, finishing stoutly, secured th« verdict by a neck. Gold Rod's performance was a shoei to supporters on the Epsom Tunning and was -ua much a reversal as Talking. The Epsom winner never looked a likely winner and diopped out of the race when the serious business commenced. Afterwrds a report was cir- • culated that Gold Rod had been doped. The trainer, Mr. Price, hurried Gold Bod home. On a veterinary examiua- ' tion the horse was found to be palpably distressed and considerably swollen 1 Over the quarters. Subsequently Gold Rod completely recovered and the absence of temperature aecording to the veterinary surg'eon removed the doubt that an attempt had been made to dope the horso. George Price, his trainer, is convinced that it was iMpossible for anyone to tamper with Gold Rod prior to the race. SECOND HURDLE RACE. Of £300; about 2 miles 3 furlongs.
