HAMILTON, This Day. The semi-finals in the amateur and final stages of the professional championship were reached at St. Andrew's to-day in dull weather with a fresh westerly wind. Conditipns improved as the day progressed. . " A sprained thumb handicapped E. J. Moss in his match with B. Smith jnr., and he witlidrew from the professional championship after 18 holes had been piayed, when Smith was leading tour up.
