S. rulierton-Smith, while in the other jaatch Mrs Sloan-Morpeth and Miss & Tolhurst, the Australians, went iows to p. Helean and Miss j, Horwell, the New Zealand pair. In ihe match between Mrs Hollis Mra Fullerton-Smith against Mt«« Hutton and Miss Kernot, Miss Hollis hit off the tee first, Mrs Eul-terton-Smith being five yards over the green with her second and Miss Kernot five yards short. Both ran up nicely and each taking two putts, the hole was halved in fives. Mn Fullerton-Smith and Miss Kernot hit off at the next tee, neither aettinjz a clean drive and running up Ihe gap in the fairway. Mrs Hollis placed her second on the green nicely froza 100 yards out. Miss Hutton was SQ yards short and then Miss Kernot placed the- third shot within a yard of the pin. Mrs Hollis approached short and landed in the bunker. Mrs Fullerton-Smith came out ntrongly and ran to the far edge oi the green, the return putt being missed by Mrs Holhs. Two putts were taken by each side and the hole was won by the Kew Zealanders in five and six, and they went to the lead by one up. The short 14th went to Australia by three to four, Mrs Fullerton-Smith 's tie shot was 15 yards short of the green, « while Miss Kernot 's was well to the back of the green. The run-in by Mrs Hollis was 10 feet from the pin, while Miss Hutton's 20-foot putt just lipped ihe hole. Mrs Fullerton-Smith stayed short of the hole with her putt, leaving New Zealand oue up. All Square. Miss Hutton piayed a 250-yard drive at the iSth. and Miss Kernot placed the second on the green within six feet of th© pin. Mrs. Fullerton-Smith was short with her approach, but Mrs. Haliis ran up well to the pin. Two putts were taken by each and the hole went to Australia by four to five and the match beoame all square. At the 16th Miss Kernot 's drive was long and straigkt. Mrs. FullertonSmltk pushed hers out and it was only saved from going out of bounds by striking a fence wire aud deflecting back. Mrs. Hollis was also very close to the fence with her second, but Mrs. Fullerton-Smith made no mistake with the nest which was well on the green. Miss Hutton piayed a nice second, but her partner' s third was short. Miss Hutton again came to light and ran right up to the hole. The New Zealanders took two putts and the hole was halved in fives. At the 18th. there were two good drives by Miss Kernot and Mrs. Fuller-ton-Smith. The seconds were on the green, Miss Kernot just lipping the hole with a 14-foot putt for a three. The New Zealanders also took two putts, and the hole was thus halved iu fours, Australia taking the hole and the match by one up. Second Foursome. Tlie second foursome was piayed between Miss S. Tolhurst and Mrs Sloan Morpeth, representing Australia, with Misg Helean and Miss Horwell, New Zealander. Miss Horwell and Miss Tolhurst lcd ofE from the first tee with two nice shots, which their partners followed with good seconds to the green. With two putts to each side the hole waa halved in fours. The second hole was also halved in fives, after even play through the fairway and on the green. Two good drives by Miss Tolhurst and Miss Hontfell opened up , the third. Two beautiful shots were made to the green by Miss Helean and Mrs Morpeth, with the New Zealanders taking two putts to the Australians' three. New Zealand won the hole by four to five, inaking New Zealand 1 up. The short river hole was halved in fours. After the Australians had been stymied on the green the fifth saw two good drives by Miss Helean and Miss Tolhurst. Miss Horwell piayed a beautiful second to the green, Mrs Morpeth's being just short. Miss Tolhurst putted to within six feet of the pin, which her partner duly sank. Miss Helean putted right up to the hole, just missing, and a half in fours resulted. The sixth was won - by the Austrdlians in four to New Zealand's five, squaring the match, and the short seventh also went to the Australians by three to four, making them oue up, The eighth, Shirleys, saw the Australians playing very steadily to take the third hole in a row and stand two up. New Zealanders' Turn. New Zealander's turn came next, as they won the 9th., 10th. and 11th. in succession by fives to sixeS* for New Zealand again to take the lead. The terrace was halved in fours, but the Australians won the return by scoring a five to New Zealand's six, and again the match was all square. The short . fourteentb was halved in tours and the next m fives. The sixteenth opened up well with two good drives by Miss Helean and Mrs, Morpetk, followed by two good seconds by tlieir partners. Mrs. Morpetk was too strong with her approach, and overran the green. Miss Helean pitched niceJy to tlie green. Miss Tolhurst piayed back too strorjg again. then Miss Horwell aJmost holed out an 18-foot putt, the Australians taking two putts. New Zealand won the hole. five to six, and were again one up. The short seventeenth was then won by the Australians in three to four to again square the match. Two good drives opened up the eighteenth for a chapter of accidonts to follow. Both sides found bunkeis with their seconds, and both eleared too strongly. Miss Helean's ball overran the green and rested against a'temporary fence, and Mrs. Morpeth did the same to strike a tree near the roadside. Lt took the Australians two shots to clear from their trouble, while New Zealand were able to lif't and drop f^eir balls clear under a local rule. The New Zealanders were on the green with their fourth and the Australians with their fifth shots. Two putts each fol lowed, New Zealand winning the hole by six to seven, making them up on the game. The position as regards both games is now all square, one game each.
