"The Metropolitan," the paper adds, "provided a stirring spectaele of which th'e finish was a fitting climax. Sir Regcnt and Silver Standard were loeksd together for n early a furlong. The latter lacked that littie extra needed to capitalise a race ruu with perfect understanding betwcen horse and rider, aithough the uierit of Sir Regent's run cannot be dimmed. "Mala's display was not in keeping with his form before Randwick, but it is iudicated that he was uot iiuproved by his run in tho Spring Stakes ou Saturday."
